How do vortices made from Bose-Einstein Condensates (BEC) behave when trapped by laser tweezers? In this project, this behaviour is simulated, both in 1D and 2D by solving the Gross-Pitaevskii Equation (GPE) under a harmonic optical trap using Strang Splitting. An accurate initial wavefunction is obtained by perturbing a ground state with a vortex. The ground state is obtained by propagating imaginary time through the GPE. (Sept 2025, Year 2)
